It’s a scorching hot day across the province, but we won’t let our executives complain about being out in the sun – they happen to be enjoying a round of golf to benefit an Albertan charity!
The Federation Charity Golf Classic is an annual event held in partnership with the Alberta Federation of Rural Electrification Associations (AFREA). All funds raised are donated to the Albertan division of Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, and specifically benefit rural Albertans with MS.
CCI Wireless’ connection to the event is through our co-op ownership. We truly are local-owned and operate for the community through 14 gas co-ops and 1 Rural Electrification Association (REA). These partners, who provide utilities to rural communities, also made it their mission to provide broadband internet to under-served Albertans.
The 170 golfers participating today hope to beat last year’s total donation of $20,000. Over the last decade, the charity event has raised over a quarter million dollars. These funds have been instrumental in providing information and medical referrals, advocacy, support groups, donated equipment and more to patients who find it more difficult to access services to treat MS in remote locations across Alberta and the North-West territories.
The charity is a wonderful match for the rural gas co-ops, who provide essential services far from the big cities, and for CCI, where we strive to connect Alberta. The Federation Charity Golf Classic is just one more way we like to be part of the community and get in touch with our gas co-op roots.
